Ryanair non rip off thread

I thought I would celebrate my 1000th post by posting a non moaning post.

Me and some of my my colleagues have just got back from a couple of days in berlin, we flew Ryanair and took carry on luggage so no check in and paid with an electron card, cheers MSE, so all in the flights were £20 each, blah rip off blah blah blah, I cant even get to london during the rush hour on a train for less than that and I live 35miles from london.

Flight out was 10 mins late, bah 10 mins no compensation no free hotel no free food etc etc, however we arrived 20mins early. so all good there, hotel was top banana and only £41 each.

Anyway 2 days of booze and talking nonsense ensued, and of course having to put up with the omnipresent tv tower, its amazing you can see it from anywhere in berlin.

Flight back was delayed by 30mins, tech prob at stansted but oddly enough we did make up the time and arrived back 2 mins early.

Only tiny moan and its is tiny, is the dis-organisation at schonenfeld when it came to boarding, its amazes me that people wouldnt push in front of you in a q at the shops/bank etc but seem to think that its fair game when boarding a flight, anyway there are some advantages to being 6 foot and rather large so anyone pushing in was put in their place.

Moral of this story, use an electron card, we all know that, well everyone but our weekly trolls, only take what you need, ie dont pay for luggage, and most importantly if ya pay £20 for a return ticket anywhere dont expect first class service, buy your goodies from boots to save buying ryanairs over expensive food and drink then get on the plane put your ipod on and concentrate on enjoying yourself when you get there.

All the best

Great. Did you get the train from SXF to your hotel?

Good morning Mr Berlin Bear and congratulations on on your 1000th post

You're right about the tower - you can see it from practically everywhere! I lived in Germany from '86-'90 and was lucky enough to visit Berlin in January '90 whilst the wall was actually still being knocked down - amazing to see!

Glad you had a good experience with Ryanair, nice to see a positive viewpoint :D

    PS: trumpets, what trumpets?

  • Did you eat in the little railway carriage outside the airport? It's much better than the food you find inside.

They had run out of mayo for my chips when I was there. I have already written a letter of complaint to Michael O'Leary, as surely if anything is a rip-off, it's chips without Mayo?

Yup we walked to the train and jumped on the s9 to god knows where, it was a couple of stops on from unter den linden, then walked 2 blocks to our hotel, have to admit we used cabs quite a lot but thats cos there were 5 of us and was cheap as chips divided by 5. Highly reccomend Berlin for a short trip, been there on day trips before but it was nice being able to have a few and chill out.

Pup, trumpets is reference to the best ad on tv:

Moonchild we ate in the airport on the way back, some foreign company think it was called Das Burger King, never heard of it myself.

Hate to admit half of our time in germany was spent in a irish bar, mainly due to only really drinking cider, apfelwine, and none of the bars we walked into seemed to do it. But we managed to spend a good few hours in a german cafe/club drinking very manly cocktails, oddly enough there were a heck of a lot of men in the club and think we may have stumbled into an "alternative" bar but it was cool and no hassle at all.

I have to go to Berlin quite a lot and had a gay colleague take me out one night. Now, i'm very open minded and not used to being shocked, but maybe should have been prepared - it was called the 'Cellar' or 'Dungeon' or something very similar.

We're all the men in this 'alternative club' shackled to the ceiling and wearing leather perchance (albeit not too much)?

Anyway, still wake up in cold sweats sometime remembering that place :D
