Hi all

I'm in the process of switching from EDF Energy. Only been with them for about a month - since I moved in.

The new supplier sent a text message to say the switch is "going fine" and it will take place on the 14th November.

Today I received a letter from EDF Energy
EDF wrote:
We are sorry to hear that you are leaving us for your energy supply.

Please call us free on 0800 096 7342 so that we can ensure your account details are correct. Once all the relevant information has been received from your new supplier we will be able to finalise your energy account(s).

If you were not aware ... blah blah

If you have already been contacted by us regarding this matter please disregard this letter.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Do they just want to convince me to stay or would there be a real reason why they want to speak to me? I don't have a landline, just PAYG phone. My internet connection isn't really suitable for Skype/VOIP. So I don't want to waste money calling them from mobile if I don't need to.

It is a pretty lame excuse if all they want to do is sell themselves.

Anyone had anything similar?

Edit: Just googled phone number and that seems to be their retentions department!

Any company you switch from will/should send you a similar letter. By doing so, it restricts the chances of you being switched against your authority.

  • Definitely a ruse to get you on the phone so they can hit you with sales talk/lies in order to get you to de-switch. I believe a lot of these bods work to flow charts based on customer's standard answers. For instance, if the punter says the new company are cheaper there's a stock answer/script to get back to them with etc. My call from British gas was very short:

BG bod: Can I just ask why you wish to leave us?

Me: Just because I can, no other reason.

    BG bod: Oh, err, OK.

End of call. That answer couldn't have been on his flow chart :D
    Call me Carmine....

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??
  • Hi

Just to let everyone know that my switch went very smoothly - about 2 weeks ago - I didn't bother contacting EDF on that number. I'm now awaiting my final bill - any ideas how long this normally takes? EDF have disabled access to my online account now.
  • I Recently Moved Power Supplier From Edf, They Owed Me Less Than £ 10 On My Lecy A/c , This Was Refunded To My Bank.
However They Owed Me Over £100 On My Gas , Ive Had To Call Them Twice To Get It Refunded.
And Iv Just Found Out This Morning That They Did The Same To My Parents ? Check Your Statements !
  • Call the number on the letter, and say in a friendly voice... "hello, am i through to customer retentions"... im sure we know what the answer will be!

It has now been 3 weeks and no bill. I'm not going to chase them as I can't cope with their awful customer service.

When I moved in, was on hold for about 20 minutes before I hung up. Emailed them to open the account and took almost three weeks for them to reply.
