hi,

im not sure if i have made a fatal mistake.

i am on prepayment meters, i kept these as i like them and it means i dont get a huge bill as i pay as i use, i have been with n power for years, the other day a british gas rep called and told me about thier pricing eg not charging extra for the meters ect and had a fixed till 2012 price deal, as i am totally fed up with n power, i decided to switch, i have this happening on 30th nov. but im not up to speed on pricing ect infact im totally baffled by it so im not sure if i have made a huge mistake switching, some one said what if the prices come down you will still be paying that fixed price.

any advise would be really helpful as i can cancel this before it goes ahead if i need to but i do know there are costs with n power for using pre pay meters and eliminating this cost wuld be helpful.

any ideas or input from all would be great.

ps i only have gas central heating the rest is electricity powered.

The best thing you cn do is look at the compariosn sites for an idea of who is cheaper. For most customers the standing charge/no standing charge thing doesn't make a difference.

As to the fix, that's up to you - there are a few threads on here about the benefits or otherise of fixing, and the consensus seems to have swung against it for now, but no-one (me, the BG rep, nor anyone on here) can say what'll happen over the span of that plan. It's a gamble I'm afraid, and only you can gamble with your money.

I'm probably going to get slated for working for BG, but no matter what your decision I cannot benefit, either way.

Although it is a gamble, I don't think many people on this board would suggest that BG fixed to 2012 is a good gamble to take at the moment.

It is certainly about the most expensive tariff available, and there are much cheaper tariffs on offer.

Lesson to be learned is don't sign up on the doorstep or over the phone.

It will rarely be the best deal you can get and, even if it seems to be, it's always worth doing some research rather than making a decision based on a rep's assertions.
