Carpet Cleaning - not Rug Doctor

I'm in the process of de-cluttering/cleaning house ready for valuers tomorrow.
I've got one lightish carpet that is fine except for a square in the middle that has marks/dirt. I haven't really got time to hire the Rug thing and do the house (plus it was done recently) and don't want to spend £30 for one bit of carpet. Has anyone used one of the hand steam cleaners, and are they any good? (don't mind buying a small one) Failing that I'll get out the scrubbing brush - best fluid?
Cheers

scrub it with 1001 carpet cleaner. cheapest method.
or buy a small rug and cover it up?Get some gorm.0 -
Agreed, a rug would seem the obvious choice.
Don't worry, your carpet is a " loose " item and is not part of the actual building anyway, so should not be included in the valuation.0 -
Thanks, I've got a small rug by the fireplace, but maybe should get a bigger one. It's just about the only bit of the room that gets walked on, but sticks out badly.
I know valuers have more sense (;)) but don't want it to put off the hoards of buyers i'm expecting
