Competition text scam

A few months ago I entered a comp from one of the links on here which asked for a mobile phone number.
I then started getting texts which immediately took £5 off my credit on my phone. After I had got around 3 I phoned my mobile operator to find out what to do and where they had come from.
I complained to PhonePayPlus which is the regulator.
I have now received their adjudication and the company has been fined £50,000.
The numbers to watch out for are: 85115 & 85015 they belong to a company called Two Way Traffic.
Just thought people should be made aware of it.

How did you sort this out, I have been charged for several texts and the company are not interetsed, in fact they challeneged me to try and get my money back, not sure where to go next. They are owned by Sony Entertainment, so there must be a way of sorting this out. They gave me a number which is constantly engaged - please help! Thanks

Yes - was a victim of this very recently. I had entered a competition where I gave my mobile number. My bill actually shows having sent a text to 85115 (mypengo.com) - this subscribed me to their ringtone service.

I only recently dug deeper to find this - this is what I have done so far.

- Text 'STOP' to 85115 which ends the subscription
- Called Orange to talk about refund - they said I would have to call the company. They gave me details for an 'MBLOX' (0203 0262817)
- Called MBLOX who confirmed they wouldn't provide a refund as I had originally text them to subscribe to their service (which I expected at this point).
- Called phonepayplus (0800 500 212) who said the only way I would probably get a refund is if I could provide evidence that I was not aware of the service I was signing up to.

So now I am trying to gether proof from the competition website I used. This is for texts from 85115 specifically - not sure about 85015.

I'm sorry this has happend to you. When something like this has happend i go to the http://www.la.bbb.org
Companys sometimes (they dont have to) subscribe to this site. Then if youve got a problem with a company, use the above website and they will try and get your money back, ( if the company is on the site) or any other issues you have. I have used them before and i think they are free to use. HTH
