UPVC door knockers & handles

About 3 years ago I had new upvc doors and windows. I also had the varnished handles etc as I was told they wouldn't tarnish & would last a life time.
Slowly but surely they have started to tarnish and the front ones lokked terrible. The double glazer came back to do some further work for us and I asked if he would replace the tarnished handles- no problem. Except he's now told me that they do not do the size of the front door knocker and spy hole and that now all handles etc are now only guaranteed for 1 year as they always tarnish.
I said I would have brass ones then which at least I could polish but they don't do brass ones.
Has anyone had this problem? What is the best way to polish these knockers etc I've been told he will try one more place for me but even if he does manage to replace it , it will be tarnished in 2 years? Is this correct?
