Spanish buyer debating postage

Hello,
On Sunday I sold an item on ebay. I wrote on the listing that I would only ship to the UK due to the weight (over 8Kg) and value (£100+) of the item.
Bidding finished and I found out the buyer was from Spain
Now the RM quote £40 to post, so I sent him an invoice for this value. He has since been debating with me this cost, firstly saying I could have it collected for half this cost (true, but I'd have to take time off work to stay home and wait for collection), and is now trying to negotiate me paying for a % of the postage.
I'm really naffed off about this; lots of bother for me when I did only want UK buyers.
What should I do now? I've asked him if he would like to withdraw his bid, but have had no response. Do I wait until Sunday and put in a dispute? I'd realy like this item off my hands now and would like my ££! For info, I had a number of bids, so could offer any of them a second chance offer.
Anyhow, I'd appreciate your advice.

The problem with using other courier companies is that you still typically have to wait in all day for them. At least with th royal mail you can take it to the PO.
I would br straight with the buyer, tell him your concerns about waiting in all day and also mention to him that the original listing did say uk only.
I guess ultimately depends on how much desperatly you want to sell the item and if you were to relist it if you could easily sell it again.0 -
True but there are ways around it, such using a neighbour or a work address. What I would say is are you happy with the price it went for, if so do your best to get the sale to go through. It's very likely that if postage isn't reduced it will be a NBP. Flip side if you weren't stick to the £40, but if it goes to a dispute expect a reply and be prepared for nasty feedback.0

Since you did not offer to ship internationally, you could cancel his bid and offer it to the next highest bidder.0

However if had your shipping settings set to 'no international shipping' you can file a NPB and select 'buyer requests shipping to an area I don't ship too' (something along those lines). But if you just had u.k only in your listing that may not be enough. Anyway, you could then offer a second chance offer.0 -
Oh dear, your quest for sensible advice has prompted a rant from me... sorry!
Some time ago I had a Spanish buyer win a nice little dress I'd hardy worn, (just "Grown-out-of" after packing in the fags!) Despite the postage charges being clearly on the description, she sent me a long email about how "Socked" she was at the cost. After taking it to the post office, I realised there was a cheaper way of sending it (pretty inexperienced I admit!) I came home and let her know I could send it cheaper, but not at actual cost as I now had to make a 2nd trip to my part-time rural post office.
All this I did the same working day as was actually possible.
She then sent me another long-winded complaint about how the dress was damaged and demanded a refund. She was actually complaining about the clearly described "unfinished hem" that was a fashionable feature that summer!
Despite me re-assuring her that the dress was actually bought like this, she became quite abusive and opened a SNAD. She lost the dispute as I simply asked Paypal to read the item description - something she's clearly failed to do! I then looked at her other feedback left for others and it appeared she made a habit out of buying goods, then demanding a refund as SNAD while expecting to keep the items.
It's ridiculous I know, but I found it really quite stressful, and all over a dress she'd won at the starting price of £1.95!
Spanish buyers, GRRRRrrrrrr!Worse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -

I guess if the guy is refusing to pay the postage then that is classed as non-payment, so second chance offer is available.0 -

You can't cancel the bid no, but you can offer the auction to the next person on the list, thats possible, I have done this on afew occassions either when the buyer did'nt conact me in enough time (a week) or like you, they were fussing over a postage fee despite being told of the fees before they bid. Downside is that you can't leave the stupid buyer a negative which to me is half the fun. It means they get away with thier idiocity and may come back to bid again....
I would look along the list, see who else bidded, you need to go to list an unpaid item first, then this will be listed as a dispute. From that you can end the dispute and say you have come to an arrangement with the bidder and the bidder does not want to proceed. So then you get a list of the people who bid before the winner and can conact them to sell the item to them.
Its better then the time waster you are currently dealing with anyway.0 -

You have a stroppy buyer and you want to offer a mutual  The buyer just then ticks that he wants the item, seller is then left with unrecoverable FVFs on the 1st sale and a possible neg. They will then pay a 2nd lot of FVFs when they do the second chance offer.
I can't see a way of guaranteeing that no neg is left but I would strongly suggest a belt and brace attitude with this buyer. if they start off being a problem it is my experience that they will continue to be so. Therefore send an invoice that shows the postage rate to Spain for International signed for, do not offer alternatives or make any other concession. If buyer does not pay by day 7 then open a full NPB, then hopefully you can get that closed on day 8 before they pay. If they pay send the item fully tracked and insured.
Never ever offer a mutual to a stroppy buyer, it will cost you a lot of money.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
