I only buy grated mozzarella if I am making pizza, because the wet stuff is not good for the dough, it makes it all soggy and stringy.
Well that explains why my pizzas are always so wet. I thought I was being authentic in buying the mozzarella in pouches. Thanks so much for this tip Caterina:T

    I guess the lessons are:

You pays your money and takes your choice

Not everything "value" is the BEST value.

Generally I wouldn't dream of buying pre-prepared cheese but since I have been looking carefully at price per kilo: I tried some Galpo grated cheddar from Lidl which was quite good value at the time. I found I used less than grating my own (as another poster said all too easy to grate too much and gobble up the rest!). This week I found what they called 'Pizza Cheese' SP in Asda. Can't remember the exact price but hugely cheaper than their SP blocks. I've only used it for cheese sauce so far (and I always add a teaspon of Dijon mustard) and intend to use it for lasagne and sprinkling on chilli. Keep it in the freezer in a sealed bag, saves my quality cheese for crackers and sandwiches and when you can really taste the difference.
