I have a mini dv sony and very good it is. I play the tape through the tv with lead and remote that came with it. If its some thing I want to keep I just buy another tape.
To edit or put it on to dvd you will have to use your computer a bit tricky but depends
how good you are on it. you dont need a very power full zoom, if you use big zoom you would need tripod but for children and family hand held is best.

Some camcorders take stills but I dont think that pics are as good as a normal camera. Spare battery is a good Idea although mine last more than the one hour tapes........regards....bri

wow the prices have come down since I bought mine 2 years ago. I like the sony its very small will fit in a pocket and has a touch screen. The screen is 2.5 whilst the others are 2.7 wide screen. Some of the others have an SD card to take and save stills.
Pricewise they are much the same under £150. the sony has top loading tapes which makes them easy to change and the image and sound on tv looks very professonal.
I had the same problem choosing mine, I have used it all over the world with exellent results and ease of use....regards .....bri
