Npower overcharge

This company has to be the worst performing utilities company on the market. We moved into new premises on the 05/05/08howeer being the hnest Joe that I am I phoned them up on the 29/04/08 and gave the all my bank details and the current read. Between the two dates the reads never chnaged. At the same time I requested that they remove a related meter as we no longer required storage heaters and the meter was redundant and was not being used. It took them 2 months to remove the metering although it should be done at a maximum of 10 working days from your request.
After a lot of issues etc we then moved across to another company on 10/10/08 and once again Npower were given a read but today we got the final bill from Npower for £218.18 despite the fact that we had made 3 x £30. In effect over £300 electric only consumed between 05/05 and 10/10/08 for 1 1 bedroom flat and we were away for nearly the whole month of September. Heating is done on gas.
On checking the bill, the opening read had been estimated despite on 3 different occasions during May supplying them with the read and getting assurance that they had submitted the read. Opening read was nearly 400 units lower. Final closing read was nearly 170 units too much. What they never realsied is that i had transferred the supply across to the company hat I worked for and the company is a small supplier so I knew that we had sent them the closing read on an official industry recognised flow.
Eventually after re-calculating my bill I worked out that I only owed them about £66! A very big difference from £218.
In addition to all the nonsense with them, in July I contacted them and requested that my DD payment be increased from £30 pm to £35 pm. They again asked for confirmaton of my bank details which I supplied. The next thing that happens is that Npower are trying to take on my gas supply but at no time did I discuss my gas account. Also in early October I gave them a meter reading and requested a bill. This bill has never been forthcoming.

Just to crown it all, i have been advsied that as they have a large backlog of bills waiting to be amended, I will not received the amended bill until December 2008 sometime!

I would strongly suggest that you give your supplier readings on a regular basis and always keep a record of the reading to avoid being ripped off.

I really don't understand this, surely the advisor can adjust a bill over the phone?

This is totally beyond their capabilities, however using my brain and maths I was able to accurately work out my bill in about 10 minutes. The mind boggles!
Luckily I work in the industry so I like to think I am a little astute when it comes to utility bills but what about the thousands of people who cough up and pay?

But it's the fact that the advisor just needs to overwrite the reads on the system then rebill the account, it sounds like the advisor is just being lazy, can WhistleBlower maybe confirm if Npower can do this?
