hello all
my 6 cd changer is not working. an auto electrician recommended getting a new 1 cd unit but i like the 6 and the cassette unit and want to get it fixed. car is BMW 323, nearly 10 years old; cd etc is factory fitted. BMW dealer is way too expensive. the cassette player works but wont ff or rw, which i can live with
any thoughts/advice? anyone had a similar problem?
thanks

get a replacement off ebay or scrap yard0

How about an Ipod or MP3 capable unit. Plenty of music at hand.0
-
yeah ive thought about mp3 but i have tapes i still like. its an age thing.
will have a look at scrapyards ta0 -
they will be very cheap
TOP TIP:
when they ask what car it came off say ford citroen vaxhaull vw etc
NOT BMW, my scrap yard charge more for the sam item if it comes off a car like a bm or merc0 -

so any cd will do? not sure how i tell if another fits
but thanks for advice, will get onto it
oh just thought, could it be a diy job?0 -
The only changer that will work will be a BMW one. A new original or aftermarket one will be around £200. If you cannot get one off ebay / scrappy changing the HU will be the cheapest option.0

The first thing to do is to find out the MAKE + MODEL of your CD player. BMW don`t make them , they only "badge" them so it could be one of the leading manufacturers (Blaupunkt/Philips/Clarion /Alpine/Becker etc)
Then you can either look for a similar make as a replacement on Ebay or the scrapyard............. or if you are really attached to this particular unit , then take it in to be fixed at the appropriate repair shop.(It won`t be cheap though )
What`s the problem with the player as most faults are usually either mechanical due to dirt/fluff etc. or just a dirty laser lens?0 -
ive tried cleaning the lens and the tape player but still says no cd when i try it. dont know what else to do as a non mechanical person0
