What feedback should I leave?

I bought some clothes on eBay and I'm not happy with the postage and packaging. The seller charged £1.10 too much but I know a lot of eBay sellers do that. But I'm not happy that my items were cramped (when I saw the package I was shocked that the clothes could fit in such a small space - serious ironing needed!) and were simply wrapped in a plastic Tesco carrier bag. I'm not happy that I was charged £1.10 more for such rubbish packaging.
So my question is what feedback should I leave? I have been with eBay for years and have never left a neutral or negative for anyone as all purchases have been good ones and I hate to say bad things about someone.

I would e-mail the seller and explain that you are not happy with the packaging and costs, if the seller has an attitude or does not reply then I would go for neutral at the worst.
I am only trying to help
  • as someone who buys and sells, my thoughts are the packaging charge has to be more than the actual cost- or you can end up being well out of pocket. and also its often more to supplement a low sale price. i treat sale price+ p&p as the cost of the object, i dont see them as separate.

re the bag- recycling in my opinion is a great thing and i always send stuff out in recycled packaging, and am well chuffed when something arrives in said packaging.

so basically its all down to subjective viewpoint but i wouldnt neg or neutral ur experience
  • If you bought a bundle then for it to be £1.10 over isnt too bad. Im not bothered what my parcels are wrapped in as long as they get to me safely.

I think you are fretting over nothing TBH and If you are happy with your item then id either leave pos but lower star rating for the postage bit or not bother. I think id actually not bother leaving any.

I don't think you should leave a negative as you knew the cost of postage when you bid for the item. If I'm not entirely pleased with an item I just don't leave any feedback.

Also if you pay via paypal they take part of p&p money. It also takes time to pack and post stuff.

Thanks all for replying. I was thinking on the same lines as guys but wanted to see if most people would be bothered by this and would want to know about this seller. I didn't pay with PayPal. I would've like a bit better packaging. I like the plastic bag idea as it keeps the clothes dry but I felt it was only half packaged. But I will leave a positive but will not give 5 out of 5 for postage and packaging. Looking at the seller's feedback, I think a lot of people have done this. Thanks all for your views!

Hi - most sellers will add a little to the p&p charge to cover packaging (although many re-cycle) and fees. Whilst strictly speaking you shouldn't, by the time eBay and Paypal have taken their slice there is often not much left.

I always look at the bid price + postage as the total delivered price, but if I think a seller is massivly overcharging then I don't bid out of principle. I purchased some stuff for a good price and paid £5 postage - it arrived today having cost around £1.50 to post and poorly wrapped. The item was fine, so I left possitive but did comment that I would have expected better packaging for the price paid.

I save the plastic bags from magazine covers and postal wraps to pack items before enveloping, to keep them clean in the post.

With clothes, I imagine you would always wash and iron anyway ?

Did the items get damaged in transit? If not, then you cant really complain. What a lot of people dont take into account is that the seller has to go to the PO to send the item. Why is it expected that the time involved in packaging the item up isnt a cost? Also, yes, you were aware of the postage before you bid. I suppose you could call this a bit of a rant, but I occassionally underprice my P&P (other day charged £4.99 when it actually ended up costing £9.30) so there has to be some leeway for the seller. It always seems to be the sellers fault tbh, they never can do right. I am a buer and seller by the way, so im not biased, its just how it is. The person that i undercharged postage for, they havnt even left feedback which shows how grateful they are. No wonder sellers are leaving ebay.

Personally I'd always be emailing the seller first, before posting for advice on message boards!

If the seller did not respond, only then would I be asking the feedback question...

I would email to ask about the packagine- if you feel it was poorly wrapped/unprotected. It could also be in the sellers interest, I shop at tescos, I know their bags disintergrate quite fast and it could mean its a poor choice of protection from the elements. The seller may want to take more care next time.

If you look at the overall cost, remember that ebay can take as much as 40% when you add together both the listing fee, and the final selling fees, then paypal take some more from that, then theres the labels... if you are selling, and have no savings, sometimes there just isn't enough to get from that to pay for a large envelope. But I would feel unsure about the packaging if less then 2 bags were used, just because its not such a good way to protect it/easily ripped.

Talk to the seller, if they are narky or out of order, then you have something to report. But being irritated at the fees ebay and paypal charge is not really the sellers fault. Know its not right, but then neither are ebays fees to sellers who sell cheaper items.
