Amba,
I run a niche printing company. We print onto credit card sized plastic (Business / Loyalty / Discount cArds along with Photo Id Cards).
Feel free to PM me and will always answer any questions you have.0 -
What's wrong with vistaprint cards? I have some and people always tell me what lovely cards I have. Unfortunately I cannot afford to have any others printed but when my business starts to pay then I will go to a local printer and get all my stationery from him. In the meantime vistaprint it will have to be (I admit that I paid a bit extra for heavyweight cards)
You couldn't afford 40-50 quid for good business cards. it depends on who you are selling to but to me it says:- i'm not serious, i'm not professional. i don't believe in the image of my business. i just can't take them seriously.
but saying that i haven't seen for a while.The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
To alter the quality/dpi when you go to print and select a pdf it should give you options of presets, there'll probably be one named "print qualty" or similar, if not there will be settings and as long as on colour and greyscale images you don't have it downsampling to below 300dpi and the monochrome image no less than 600dpi you should be fine.
As for throwing away vistaprint cards that's rediculous if you're uploading your own artwork they are only a printers and as the saying goes "!!!! in, !!!! out" so the cards will only ever be asgood a the uploaded artwork file.
Amba_Gambla - if you need any help with pdfs PM me and I'll probably be able to email you a preset that will give you a print quality.
And the low quality stock they use. but hey the one's i've knowingly thrown away have it printed on the back. All I am saying it dosen't project a very good image of the company. and again it depends who you are selling to/for......The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -

I'm a freelance graphic designer and creative artworker so mine go into design agencies, magazine publishers and large print companies, who can't tell they're from VistaPrint, and I've even used them to produce cards for clients.0 -

fair enough, but the ones i've seen wouldn't represent you company very well. i'll stick with my local printer/graphic designer.
i did have a website designer give me a vistaprint card.... he didn't get the job.
assuming you must get work from them?The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
yep I get work, and the scary thing is people pay me to order vistaprint cards for them because they can't be arsed uploading a pdf themselves...
...don't you just love purchasing departments:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I'd be pretty p*ssed off if I'd paid someone to do me business cards and I got vistaprint.....0

Not really, they know how they're being produced and are paying me to upload the files for them, like I've said before they're just a printers, the only reason thy're cheap is because they batch print the cards0
