help plz with comet clearance aution site

Hi peeps well i have just brought a £329.99 fridge off of the comet clearance site for £144.00 so was felling really happy with myself wow what a saving £185.99 for an ex display model.

Right now the problem so i got it delivered today and i was left to unpack it and i did so and when i opened the door the shelves came down with a crash and the bottem shelf smashed as did the veg draw so i did the obvious and called the hotpoint number that was stuck on the front that said five year parts guarantee and when i finally got an answer they said "it is comets responsability".

so off i go again and phone the comet customer services number and they said "there is no way we can replace the parts so you can have a refund"

not knowing my rights very well and not thinking after half hour of mind numbing hold melodys i accepted.

but then i thought what if i could get the parts myself surly i will still be making a saving not forgetting ive already saved £185.99 on the retail price.

so i put fridge spare parts in to google and what do i find a link to comet spares web site after a few minutes looking i find they sell all the parts needed on there site and for less than £50 could have all the parts needed and still saving on the retail price.

but wait didnt comet tell me they cant replace the parts yet they are for sale on there spares web site.

plz help as to what my rights are or any input on wether i should cancel the refund if i can.

thanks

Phone Comet back, explain the situation, and see if they will accept the charge.

I had a situation with Amazon whereby an item was faulty and they couldnt replace it, so i had it fixed and they paid the bill.

I had a similar problem. As suggested just give them a call and ask for a partial refund. The girls on the phone are limited in what they can offer but it was about £35 on a similarly priced item.

I don't think you will have a problem.
  • thanks for that will get back on the phone tomorrow to cancel the colection as think lines might be closed by now

i thought that the responsability should have been theres as it was unsafely packed.

also, don't forget to mention to comet that its actually more environmentally friendly and economical. I can see it not going through thier books as a general thing, but you may be able to get them to go with the suggestion as a good will gesture- even though at the end of the day, its simple common sense!

I would also say you are shocked that they are more willing to throw something away then pay just a small fraction to have it fixed, and how disgusted you are at thier company for not doing so.
In this current financial crisis, retail needs all the good-will shoppers it can get, so to loose you and all your friends/collegues will not go down well with them.

It may take a letter to the head office, but could turn out in your favor.
