HELP!!!!!! Erroneous Switching HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just found out that my gas and electricity supplier has been changed without my knowing, obviuosly I am trying to sort this out, but no one can say who my new supplier is, Im concerned as I am worried about , having to pay more than I need or can afford, I was all sorted with my previous supplier, Scottish Power, paying by direct debit, and at least I knew where I was, now I am confused and cross. Scottish Power say I have to remain with my new supplier for 28dys, and then change back if I want to, can anyone describe their experiences , as I have been told this is a common occurence, It seems wrong to me, surely there is something one can do to prevent this.

  • you should be able to tell scottish power that you didn't authorise the transfer and they should be able to sort you out, i think it's called "slamming" when it's doone without authorisation.

This is really simple so dont stress about it.

I assume that you did not sign any kind of contract with a new supplier?

Do you know who your new supplier is? Have you had a welcome letter from them?

Dont not pay anyone anything at this stage.

If the new supplier says you signed to join them, write to them by recorded delivery, head your letter with the word COMPLAINT,state that you did not sign to switch to them and ask them to forward a copy of the contract which you must have signed.

If you do not make progress complain here....

For electricity Scottish Power get advised who the new supplier is at the start of the transfer process therefore they should be able to tell you.

Did Southern Electric offer you a 'rebate' on the doorstep by any chance? And did they read your meter? if so they have switched you and you gave your consent although they probably did not tell you that you were switching. I posted on this a few weeks back.

Any they will be able to tell you who is taking over the supply then give the company a call, and request for an Erroneous Transfer, they will investigate it and if it was an Erroneous Transfer they will send the supply back to your current supplier, however this is a slow process and takes 6-8 weeks.

You can do this all over the phone, no need to send letters.

The minimum amount of time that you are registered to a supplier is 11 days and that is from the time you are registered to the supplier not from the time that you start with them.
