You would do better opening the Direct Saver Reserve instead - 6% interest including 1% bonus for 6 months. But the transfers from both take 4 days - so no quicker than getting a cheque plus £500 cash from the branch.

I wonder if it would be possible to withdraw all by cash if I gave a few days notice?

Mine matures tomorrow 01/11/08 and I have received the advice pack today. There is an option to continue for another year but ONLY for maturing Fixed Rate Regular Savers but at the same 7.5% fixed rate. Again £250 maximum deposit per month by DD (no option for SO).
New one is called Fixed Rate Regular Saver (Issue 3)

Good news, but complicates things a tad if this is your one account (as it is mine) with Brittania. Looks like a £100 holding account like the direct saver will have to be opened this time around (Last time I benefitted from the FRRS(2) being marketed before maturity of my FRRS(1) - I could send the opening cheque, and it would be cashed before the old one matured)

Still nice to see this being offered. [strike]Let's see if Leek BS (their direct competitors!) will feel obliged to following suit with their similar (members-only) product [/strike]No, just realised Leek had already replaced that account with a 6% paying one year account - and the rate has now dropped further (for new accounts) to 5.5% Still it might be worth paying in at £25 per month just to keep the option going for the time when rates later improve?

Mine expires on 9th ... no letter yet so it seems they are being really slow.

    Good old Britannia.

Actually rewarding savers' loyalty :) as opposed to the Reward Scheme farce.

    For once, I'm impressed.

What odds on the Members' Reward Scheme drawing a blank this year?

If interest rates do drop to 1%, then this and the Halifax 10% Regular Saver will help to save us from the pain.

To answer my own question, 24hrs notice to take max £2500 in cash.:)
  • After reading Afahmaep's post, I re read the letter which I received from them a couple of days ago as it made no reference to a follow on regsave.
This letter was in respect of the 1 year bond which I opened with the proceeds of last years regsave and which I had temporarily "forgotten".
I opened it on the maturity date of last years regsave and assumed that the letter referred to this years regsave.
Please accept my unreserved apologies for my indiscretions.
