Delighted that Martin's tips got me a much reduced insurance premium with another company. :xmassmile
I then cancelled my DD with the bank and phoned my previous provider to tell them I had changed to a much cheaper option. They are now demanding that I pay two months premiums to take me through to the end of January which would be the end of my annual term. They will only release the confirmation of no claims on receipt of payment. Can they do this? Can I refuse to pay it? And do I really need the confirmation anyway - my current provider (More Than) hasn't asked for it.
Help - I can't afford another £80 at the moment.

Is this motor or house insurance?
Did you sign or agree to a 12 months contracted agreement with them when you took the initial insurance?
Have you made a claim on the insurance policy during the year?"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

Car insurance, unlike home insurance, is an annual contract. The fact that the insurer allows 12 monthly payments doesnt mean its monthly. Also, cancellation of direct debit is not cancellation of the contract.
They are quite correct in asking for the missing payments.
There are many contracts like this out there that allow monthly payments but are contracted for 12 months.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks Dunstanh for your comments. It wasn't what I wanted to hear but I have learned a valuable lesson I guess.0
