Thanks for that mate.
I don't suppose anyone "in the know" so to speak, knows if there are any new technologies out soon which will drive prices down?
I wouldn't want to take the plunge straight away and find out I've missed a trick. Although any time you buy a new system, it's out of date within months anyway!!
I may hang on for a period and see what happens.
Any thoughts?John

no real point in waiting, new bits get faster, old bits get cheaper, no matter when you buy, a better pc will be available a month later for less moneyUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
We're just over the edge of a peak of a few developments.
ATI & Nvidia have both released their top cards
DDR2 800 RAM is no longer the fastest, so it's a good time to get it super cheap
Hard Drives haven't been phased by the release of SSD's
There's been no real development in monitors or processors
It's probably a good time to buy before the value of the dollar falls anymore and the price of components go up.0 -

Although the release of Intel Core i7 processors is imminent (some time in November) which being a whole new socket is likely to have an impact I'd have thought on the "older" technology prices such as Core 2 Duo/Quad processors, DDR2 etc."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

What's the score with Blu-Ray technology and HD graphics cards etc?
On that note, how far are we from HD games?
Might it be worth holding out until these technologies bed in and drop in price?
I have a gaming laptop atm which works ok, but I do want to upgrade in the next year or two for definate. Do you guys think that these technologies will be 'affordable' within this timescale, bearing in mind how quickly the computer technology moves!John

blueray? readers/writers available now, but the disks (and writers) are prohibitively expensive. HD Games/graphics? 1920×1080 (1080p) is a high resoultion, but the latest cards can handle it without too much bother, go tri SLI or crossfire and you could find yourself looking for a higher res than HDUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
