Saab 9-5 cd player wont play home made cds

Options
Okay, so downloaded songs from itunes, spent time finding a program to convert them to MP3's and then made a cd of them.

It plays on the cd player in the house, but wont play in my car. I have a Saab 9-5 ARC Auto 02 plate.

Any ideas??? Never had a car before that won't play home made cds and this is the newest car i have ever had, previously had 1997 model cars and late 80's and they always played them.

HELP......

CD-Rs or CD-RWs ? Most modern cars can play CD-Rs, but not many can play CD-RWs?

But it does depend on the head unit.

You might like to pop over to the SAAB Scene forums here: http://www.saabscene.com/forum/

The manufacturer of the disc can also make quite a difference
    As does cd+r and cd-r

I have owned a couple of Saabs and used to be an avid reader of Saabscene forum, I am sure I read on there about problems with CDRs.

Maybe you could check out that forum, they are a friendly bunch !
  • Thanks for all the tips. Will ask my OH what CD's he used as he burns them, i have no idea what ones he uses.

It's not a Sony head unit, is it?

  • I have no idea (not car minded), but OH is.

I've checked out the forum as others have had the same probs and some wont play MP3 files, which i def know thats what my OH changed them to as from itunes they're M4P or something.

Forum said they should be converted to WAV files. No doubt my OH will change it all tonight and see if it works.

(Oh its CD-R discs he uses)

That's the answer. Not many CD players from 1992 will recognise MP3 files. Some today still don't.

My cars not a 1992 if thats what you were thinking, its a 2002 plate.

Anyway to be extra safe i converted the MP3 files to WMA as i copied some cds from my in laws on my pc and i thought well if a normal cd you'd buy in a shop is WMA files then thats what i need.

Presto, it worked, so i have to convert itunes (M4P) to MP3's and then convert them to WMA.

That doesnt make sense! The more you convert the worse it will sound. Just convert straight to WMA

In fact, the best thing is to convert straight to work on a cd from the original files
