Using one radiator...is it worth it?

I believe heating a single room using electric is possible if its very well insulated as once the room is at the temp required and how fast it reaches it (if it reaches it) it should then cycle on and off and not be on continuosly but gch will still come on even if room is to temp if the circulating water and heat exchange drops below its setting at the boiler so you could be using more gas then actualy required to heat the room.
Also some boilers will be heating the hot water (especially older heating systems) again even if its not required so would be using more gas.
The 95% or so efficiancy of the boiler also would need to be acheieved at the rad which would mean the pump, pipes, rads, stats all being upto this % but in real terms they must all be losing a small % but electric would be 100% in the target area. To heat lage areas or multiple rooms though gas would I believe be hard to beat.
Again though this will be different for most houses and the occupier would need to check this out.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0 -
If I understand correctly, it is more cost effective to leave all radiators on even in unused bedrooms? I live in a 3 bedrooms semi. It's only two of us, I did switched the thermostat off the radiator in the two spare bedrooms. After reading this post, I have just switched them on again. Thanks
No I am afraid it is just the opposite to your understanding.
If your reasoning was correct it would be cheaper to have all the radiators on in Buckingham Palace rather than just the one in the Corgi's bedroom.
The more rooms that are heated the more it costs.0 -
I agree with Cardew and if my previous posts have been misunderstood I apologise but there is a minimum limit as well were I think it also becomes less cost effective to heat say a single room.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0
