  • Hmm, perhaps not from all records completely, but from all systems that CS have access to. Until you actually see what i'm talking about in practice, it's close to incomprehensible.

If there's anyone on here who works for HSBC and uses their system, they'd back me up. We use the same main platform.

Ah, that's different from what you said earlier on:
They need to stay on the system for audit purposes.

It seems to be an issue of front-end design (customer and customer services).

A more logical procedure from the user's point of view would be, in fact that's what one of my banks does:
you key in the payment details, complete the transaction, and then the system prompts you whether you want to stick these details in your address book.

Egg also uses the address book metaphor, which I think is really good. They offer another nifty feature, no not nifty, necessary: Each payment address has a nickname, which is what appears in the drop-down list, rather than just the payee name.

Imagine the following scenario: you have 2 BT accounts (I do) set up via phoneline. I can never remember which is which. Or, I payments to my own external accounts. What use are a half dozen Dagobert entries? It basically forces me to write something like "Cahoot ca" in the name field.

At least FD shows name and bank details in the drop-down list.
A&L doesn't and once a payment is set up you can't look at the bank details, nor can you delete it.

Me thinks, some of these systems are not designed with the user in mind.

It's a fair cop. Sorry, it is a confusing way of working. So confusing, it still confuses me!

The option of whether or not to add to a list of previously used destinations is a good one, definitely!

Sorry to disappoint you but I have just logged on to my new HSBC bank account: the Make a Payment page has a Delete Payee button.

And you can amend the payment reference of an existing payee whilst making a payment.

As an aside: unlike FirstDirect's online interface, HSBC's can be operated using the Opera browser.
