Just in case this is news to anyone (it was to me!), Skipton are doing an online xmas saver account for 2009. You apply online and the account is operated online. You get the same interest rate as the passbook version but, no passbook. You should be able to transfer the money out via bacs when it matures (saves having to post the passbook back and get a cheque).

This year I did the passbook but for next year, I am giving the online version a go.

its the online one i applied for the other night, theyve cashed my cheque already so am just waiting for the online access details

looking at the website, online account money cannot be taken in cash, (it states ( Cash withdrawals from the easy access account are limited to £250 per day. There are no cash withdrawals from the online account. ) i would assume that by that they mean that it has to be transfered via bacs to a nomindated account after the term has ended?? (ie from the xmas account to the easy access account they open the end of the term and then you have to withdraw via bacs to another nominated account??

My understanding of what Skipton told me is that at the end of the xmas saver period, the account is transferred to or becomes a normal account. This 'normal' account can be an online account so you will be able to log into this online account when the xmas saver matures and BACS transfer the money out. Saves having to post the passbook back and get a cheque in the post then get that to the bank and wait for to to clear.

Just waiting for my grid card to arrive in the post.

i was surprised at to how quick it arrived, my grid card has come already

does any one know what details i give to my own account to set up a standing order, as i only have the account number they have given me, not any sort code etc. i have sent them an online message but not sure how long it will take them to reply

i know alliance and leicter give a sort code, then the account number is 8 0's and the account number is listed as the reference number, is it the same type of format with this building society?

I've used the details here: https://www.skipton.co.uk/savings_and_investments/e-savings/ in the absence of anything to the contrary. If it's the wrong place, I'm sure they'll send it to the right place, but I suspect it's their main clearing account for all incoming transfers.

Yes they use the same clearing account

    sort code 20-78-42

    Receiving account number:
    70798924

for the Christmas savers and Special savers. It receives faster payments so I used sinlgle payments rather than standing orders as First Direct don't yet use faster payment for standing orders.
