connected to WiFi but no internet?

Hi

just travelled to New York and the apartment block im staying has free Wifi.

The Wifi is unlocked and my computer is saying im connected but I can not get any internet broswer to work.

• The wifi source is unlocked/ non encrypted.
• my firewalls are switched off.
• I have also switched off anti virus.
• I have tried both internet explorer and firefox.
• I don't have the option of using an ethernet cable.

Can any one suggest any ideas?

only thing i think of is make sure that automatic ip selection is ticked ?

Have you tried disconnecting, searching for available networks then reconnecting?

I would check with the hotel reception, but i myself wouldnt be happy to connect to an unsercure WiFi network as anyone who wanted to could "sniff" your traffic without you knowing. Always be careful when using an unsercure wireless network!

make sure that its the right network and that you have decent signal strength
