I think everyones tolerance to heat and cold is different... we set our thermostat at about 18 and thats been comfortable to us most of the time... occasionally I turn it up a couple of notches for an hour or so but mostly 18 suits us...

Turn it down a notch. Go about your business. Turn it down another notch. Repeat until you discover your fingers are unable to turn it down any further. At this point put on some gloves and turn it up a notch. There's your optimum temperature.

Alternatively, 15 or 16 degrees if you are hardy, 18 degrees if you are a wimp, 20 or 21 if you are a wealthy sybarite.

At 15 or 16 my old arthritic bones start to complain badly which is why I said everyones tolerance is different...

I agree with tanith, depends on the individual. At 18 degrees I'd be shivering :D

I have ours set to 22, and if I can get away with it I turn it up until hubby notices :rotfl:

  • we keep ours around 14 at night,18 during the day and around 20 at night so im somewhere between a wimp and a wealthy sybarite.........

Can t say i agree with that however and IMHO the most important thing is not heating an empty house. If you can change the settings dependent upon when you are in or not

We have ours at 18deg - on twice a day for a couple of hours.

We never have it on in the night or when we are not in.

About 20.5c for us. The last two houses the thermostats have been in the hallway, hallways tend to be small and the radiator that doesn't have one of those valves on (for a combi boiler) tends be on more than the rest of the house so whilst in may be cold in other parts of the house the hallway is often warm

Wall thermometers are hardly precision devices and where you sit can be several degrees different.

Most people find a temperature of 20C to 22C comfortable for sitting watching TV/reading etc.
  • 15 degrees for me and I find that comfortable. However number 2 son says the house is too warm and number 1 son complains he has to wear a heavy jumper and a fleece to keep warm. Can't win

I set ours at 18, but we do get chilly sometimes nonetheless if sitting for too long as I don't have the heating on constantly. I insist that we were jumpers as well. Hope that helps.
