Recovering data from a floppy?

We've got our Christmas card address book that we set up yeeeeears ago on a floppy disk.
We put the floppy in this year, and got an error telling us that the disk isn't formatted, do you want to format it now?

We seem to have lost our address book - is there any way of getting it back please?

(yes, I KNOW we should have backed it up, please don't just reply telling us that, and YES, i do know how stupid we are for not backing our data up.....)

Do you have access to another computer? Sometimes when a floppy won't read in one, it will read in another.

Thats all I can suggest until Mr BB surfaces. He has recovered stuff for me before from a corrupt floppy so I know it can be done, but I am not sure is has been from one that has said unformatted.

Recovers files on inaccessible floppy disks which WINDOWS says has to be formatted or is not accessible.

Most good recovery software can recover from floppy disks, this ones free and got my files back when I used it.

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

I have access to a number of computers so I got lucky once. It was a disc inaccessible error though rather than the format one.

Now others have posted, I recall that my OH has pcinspector installed on his machine so it is probably that he uses.

You could try opening the program you use to view the address book, putting the disk in and try opening it from within the program.

If it comes to it and you have a boot disk you could always try going into DOS and copying it across.
