Is it poss to swap out an analogue for a digi aerial using the existing cable, how easy is it?
It pays to challenge

Yep, just go up on your roof, take off the old one, and reconnect the new one.0

What is the difference between an analogue and digital aerial?0

There is no difference! A 'digital aerial' is a term used by aerial riggers wearing spurs to con the public. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

What are sold as 'digital' aerials are generally wideband aerials, as opposed to 'analogue' aerials which tend to be tuned (optimised) for the specific group of channels used by transmitters for analogue broadcast in a specific area.
Wideband aerials are equally adequate at recieving frequencies across the complete range used for TV, so will pul in digital channels which are broadcast 'out of group' of the analogue range used in the locale. 'Analogue' aerials are excellent for the specified group of channels, but Freeview might use a channel outwith the optimised analogue range in an area. There's love in this world for everyone. There's a world of difference. They have larger elements for a wider bandwith and more of those and reflectors to make them more directional so they have higher gain to compensate for the lower power of the MUX transmitters.0 -
Sorry Conor, you are wrong, I have an aerial from the analogue days that is the same as the the lower one in your comparison.
There is no such thing as a " Digital Aerial ".
They are both quite simply TV Aerials.0 -
There is nothing 'digital' about a TV aerial. There are wideband aerials and aerials tuned to a more selective bandwidth, but both recieve analogue radio-frequency waves which have analogue and digital signals modulated onto them. Both work in exactly the same way, but some work adequately over a wider range of frequencies and some more effectively over a narrower band. There's love in this world for everyone.
