Help -Thompsons misquote so price increase

Can anyone please advise us.
My neice was quoted a price for an all inclusive Thompsons holiday in Ibiza for 4 adults & 3 kids. (around end July) She was told by the booking person that she could only hold the price for half an hour so neice rang the family, we were all ok with it, so she rang within the half hour and booked it verbally. She paid a holding deposit and we have just paid the balance of the deposit within the time asked. We had already received paperwork confirming everything.
Now we have received a letter (end October) from Thompsons, several weeks after booking, saying that the price was mis-quoted and we can only have half board. We have to pay £16 pp, p.night to have all inclusive. Niece has rung them twice and been told they would get back to her, but that we will have to pay. But neither person has rung back. She has confirmed our disagreement by letter.
Can they really do this. Niece in particular is on her own with her 3 kids and it would cost her £600 she cannot afford. We get all inclusive for the obvious reasons of not having to handle money all the time and the kids can get drinks when they need them. etc.
Niece books early to try to get a good deal and that sort of opportunity will now have been missed. Also, she spent ages trawling through holidays to find something suitable and would have to start again. We also cannot really cancel as neice's friend has since booked the same holiday to be with us. Mum and 2 kids, so we cannot really pull out and let her down, and leave her on her own on holiday. She did pay more for her holiday, but we just thought that we had got a good deal by booking so early.
The price was confirmed on enquiry
Then again when we rang back half an hour later to book
Then again when the paperwork came through.
We are very worried and dont quite know what to do.
Can anyone help with some advice please.
Is a contract invalid because of a mis-quote ??? and so long after the booking ????
Thanks for taking the time to read this mail.

Well, you have a contract with them. They confirmed the deal in writing. The only legal get-out for them would be if there were an obvious error (for example, if the whole holiday were ten pounds it would be obvious to you that they had made a mistake), and this does not seem to be the case.
I suggest that you stand your ground. However, I don't think the difference between AI and half board is worth a great deal of energy. If they provide a decent breakfast you won't be very hungry at lunch time, and exploring local restaurants is always fun.0 -
Thanks, Voyager. We will stand our ground.
But we are doing family, for the kids, 14, 9 & 6. AI does make a big difference, in convenience as well as managing cost.
So we certainly wont want them going all day without food. It is more convenient that they can have drinks, etc. as they want without neice (who is on a very tight budget and does great by her kids and works really hard all year) having to keep giving them money all the time. We will be around the hotel and on the beach, but pubs, clubs and restaurants are out.
If it was just me, then yeah, I prefer large breakfast, no lunch and stay on the beach. And I only have a couple of glasses of wine in the evening and we have to buy bottled water during the day anyway.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read and reply. Cheers.0
