    Hi top_drawer!
If your verbal answers are good, why not record them on a dictaphone or something, and get that transcribed, or even transcribe them yourself from the recording? Might be worth trying?

    Best wishes,
    Bennifred

    hi,

The trained library staff here are pretty good, unfurtunately its not her thats the problem... NUS is great but would probably send me onto the tutorial sessions that are offered which give (good) general guidance on note taking, writing essays. I am clear on the theretical writing of esaays; intro, middle and conclusion etc and sentence structure but find it so hard to express myself academically on paper. I have read all the journals etc and just cant get it to paper.

The essay is due tommorrow at 4pm (extended from 4pm today) and I honestly dont think it will pass. I hope it the same one you get to do for the retake as then I would have to do yet more reading to come up against the same barrier...

    Any suggestions?

    Jen

I so understand its the getting the info out of the head into something that will make sense and get the point across. For me I am still waiting for my written report about the support I require ( as if i don't know I have been Dyslexic for 30 yrs!)
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

    Hi,

Yes may be it could work ... I think its partly that I am struggling with esaay technique. I spent my entire hr and half session this morning looking at this area using an essay from a book to look at generally what they have done to make the essay good ... joining sentences between paragraphs, structuring etc... and I think I have a better idea of what I should be doing and hopefully this will impact on the amount of time I spend on essays as well as improve them overall.

    hi,

lol the needs report you mean? It does take awhile ... get on to the assessment centre/disability advisor if its been 4+ weeks.

    Hi,
I was just wondering if your uni has any voice recognition software, such as Dragon dictate, that you could use? This would help with getting your ideas written down. Many of the dyslexic students I see find this extremely useful.

Help with structuring essays (and anything else that you need support with) should be provided by your dyslexia tutor.

If all else fails and you feel that she is still not meeting your needs I would suggest that you ask for a change of tutor. I teach in an FE college and we always tell our 1 to 1 students that if they feel that things are not working out they can be allocated another tutor.

    Good luck with it.

This thread has shown how many different forms dyslexia can take
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me
  • hi looby-loo,

It can be like that ...

I seem to have more problems with numbers though, I failed Maths twice before finally passing with a C on the third time. I just couldnt see the reasoning behind so many things and so could apply it when I saw the actual question.
