Any one used standard life, nationwide or HBOS for a mortgage?

Options
Hi,
I just wondered if anyone on here has used standard life, nationwide or HBOS recently for their new mortgage? If so how have you found them and lengths of time for DIP/processing/valuation etc? And in general? Just I am looking into who to go with when we buy and want to have a rough idea timescales before making any (cheeky!) offers. Thank you in advance :D

  • Of those, Nationwide are a Building Society so that's where I would go (although I'm with Britannia Building Society).

My main current account is with Nationwide and it runs smoothly enough but I've never had cause for conflict so couldn't comment on customer service.

We changed to Nationwide recently, it was done with our financial advisor (no charge) and went through really quickly, all done in about 3 weeks and they were the cheapest around aswell!
  • Thank you both, has anyone had any problems with the above 3 as far as taking ages to process etc? How long does an AIP/DIP take at the mo to get one? Are they still pretty much instantanious? or due to current climate take a little while? Thanks.

AIPs are pretty much instant - unless you get a refer decision, and then it could take up to 48 hours (but normally a lot quicker)

In my experience, Standard Life have more flexibility if trying to agree an "unusual" case i.e. outside of criteria

Yours is one of those impossible to answer questions. Its a bit like when one person says they loved a cruise and another tells you it was a nighmare, or where one person swears by a certain takeaway and another found it wanting. Its largely down to luck of the draw.

I'm using all 3 lenders and finding there is no 'average' timescale. One with Nationwide shot through, others are taking many weeks, with lots of mistakes and incompetency on thier behalf. As an example they agreed a DIP immediately then called a few days later to say it was declined due to the door number not being entered at DIP stage. It was entered and luckily I keep printouts that proved it!

Standard Life are more efficient compered to the other tow lenders.

Natiowide and HBOS are staffed by typical call centre people with not a lot of sense. If there are no errors or problems, cases can sale through, but if an issue arises it can take absorb a lot of patience and effort.

I dislike using Nationwide more than most if not all other lenders. One of dozens of strange anomilies is where you pick from the list of repayment options THEY provide you with and yet later they tell you that option is not acceptable!!

My mortgage with Halifax sailed through from application to offer in 4 days.

Was a very straight forward case though, but impressed nonetheless.
  • Thank you all, really helpful wanted to get a insight before we go for it just so when we do go to make offers I know how timescales can vary. Thanks again!

Recently applied as a first time buyer with Nationwide - DIP took 5 mins.

Valuation and home buyers report were arranged same week our application was submitted and completed two days later, we received the report a week later in the post.

Full mortgage offer took 5 weeks from the day our application was submitted (15% deposit).

We're completing on the purchase end of November.

Entire home buying process for us will be 13 weeks, from offer accepted at property to completion.

I have just got one from Nationwide, went through fairly quickly but they will p!ss you about by telling you one thing, then the next person says something different. They wanted proof of my address after I had been told I need not provide it as I have 5 accounts and an ISA with them, so to keep everything moving I sent them one of their own statements.

When I returned the application papers I put a sheet on the front telling them I would be abroad for two weeks. During those two weeks I was pestered with emails, texts and two phone calls!

Lots of other stupid, childish things, not very professional.

I am sure that the others will be the same. I would use them again but give them a bit more "stick" next time!
