Ebay Advice Needed What Would You Do?

I sold my old cordless house phones (in perfect working order only got new ones because we needed triple pack of phones) at the weekend and posted them yesterday. first thing this morning i get an email from buyer to say that they dont work and both screens on both phones are blank and dont show numbers that are pressed.
i explain that the batteries are flat from being put in my cupboard for 2 weeks before deciding to put them on ebay and that they need to be charged on the docking station for at least 6 hours before they can be used.

Problem solved or so i thought.

About half an hour later i get another email saying they are working now how i dont know when they have only been on charge half an hour. but the display on both handsets are not working (they were when i had them if one broken i could maybe understand maybe it got broke in transit but not both)
Then she goes onto say there is no dialtone mmmmmm but you just said they were working. So i spend 15 mins on google looking for instructions for the phones so i can send it in a link in email so she can have a look throught them and explain again as nice as i possibly can that there is nothing wrong with the phones they are in perfect working order and just need a good charge on the base before use

Problem solved so off to work i go get back home tonight to find this email sent at 17.43
Hi, i have got the dial tone on it now so can make calls but the display does not work as already explained, cant read any of what its saying. Can you please advise on this as i bought them on the understanding they were in perfect order. I need to keep them as i dont have another phone but i can send you pictures to show the dialing display. Im sorry but if i dont get an answer i will be opening a dispute against it. Regards
MY GOD IS SHE TAKING THE **** SHE NOT GIVING LONG TO ANSWER:mad:
I will stake my life on they screens and the phone being in perfect working order or i would never have placed them on ebay because cant be chewed with all this hassle
any advice would be very helpful sorry for the long post i am just so mad she not giving me time to do anything about it

You have a couple of options, neither ideal though. Either ask her to return them for a full refund (do not offer return postage), or refuse a refund and let her fight you via paypal. If she wins the paypal claim she will still have to return them for a full refund, but if she loses you get to keep your money.

Whatever you do remember she can leave you feedback.

One thing I tend not to do is offer partial refunds as I think that opens you up to abuse, either a full refund or nothing and let her choose.

I would agree with soolin, confirm again that they were in full working order when you last used them, perhaps suggest the buyer turns them off and on again to see if that kicks the display into life, but offer a full refund if they still don't work. your buyer sounds genuine.

Offer the opportunity to return for a refund - if they really do work then she will probably not pay the postage.

Thanks for all the advice i emailed the seller asking her to return the phones to me and i gave her my full name and address and said i would be happy to give her a refund. Within minutes i get an email saying she does not want a refund she wants to keep the phones and is willing to send me a photo of the phones not working but i am not willing to do this because i know the phones work whats to say she has not took the batteries out so the screen is blank. I send email back stating send them back for full refund and today get email from paypal to say she has opened a dispute  i am so angry what more does this seller want me to do.

OK, she has now played into your hands and is being rather foolish as I can't see what she hopes to achieve here. Respond in paypal and say that as per all your previous emails on the safe return of the phones, tracked and insured you will offer a full refund. I would also be inclined to drop paypal an email, or even call them and say that you think buyer is trying to get a refund without returning the goods, just forewarn them then if paypal do anything silly you can fight them.

she told paypal when opening dispute

I offered to send pictures to prove the handsets dont work. I dont want to send them back as that will leave me out of pocket & also I need to keep them as i dont have another landline handset until i can afford to buy another one, as a customer its my right to do that but i would like some kind of responce as they clearly are faulty and your description said they were in perfect working order.

What does she want me to give her refund and for she to keep 2 phones that i am 100% sure are in perfect working order you know i started bid at 99p and she bid with about 5 seconds left to run on auction and ended up paying £2.96 and £3.50 p&p a total of £6.46 but i am so  what she trying to get away with.

Doubt it - she'd send the broken ones back to the seller.

Can't believe she thinks it's her right to keep the phones and get some sort of refund!

Incidentally, OP, I can send you pics of my phones to show that the displays don't work - just take the batteries out before taking the pics. Strange how she managed to not have another landline phone the day yours arrived. How stupid does she think you are?

If money was that much of an object she would have gone to her nearest agros and bought the £2.50 on from there surely?
:D I understand the concept of cooking and cleaning, just not how it applies to me:D
