A Car - What to offer?

**Amy**

I gave up my car in January to try and tackle my debt, which i have done.

I promised myself that when I had paid off my interest charging debt I would get another car.

It looks like that time is just around the corner, and I have found a car at a dealers near me.

It is up for £1,495, already reduced by £200 in the past 2 months. Its a Vauxhaul Corsa, 2000, 1.2 5 door 16v, 82000 miles. (im waiting to hear if it has MOT!)

My dad has said its a good time to buy from a dealer as I could get a good deal (what with the economic climate etc.!).

What im wondering is, what would be a good offer? They do say on their website "make us an offer", but I dont want them to think I'm not serious about the car.

Sorry for the long winded post!

Any suggestions?

Maybe not the right answer or what you want to hear, but if you have survived this long without a car, why bother getting one now?

I sold my car 6 months ago and now cycle everywhere... i'm saving £275 a month from not having a car...

BTW how would you intend to pay for the car? Please tell me not more debt?!!? :-)

To be honest I borrow my sisters car a lot (its ok, im on her insurance!), but that can be next to impossible when she needs it.

I used to walk most places, but unfortunately in this weather, its going to be a no no for me! Busses and taxis cost me lots a month.

I would NOT be getting into debt again for the car, it would be from savings.

offer a grand and work from there,if i was buying a car at this age i wouldnt be looking at dealers i would be looking at classified ads on ebay or autotrader.
does it need to be a corsa?
these are popular and hold thier prices better than other models.

    Why pay a dealer's mark-up?
Do they tend to offer warranty on a 2000 w-plate?

I would buy private more cheaply for a car this age, this car will simply be a trade-in anyway so the dealer has no idea where it's been? Either way it could cost you money after a month or two.

    Thanks guys.

It doesnt have to be a Corsa at all really, just saw it and liked it.

Have looked on autotrader and ebay and there arent many near me. however, my sister has said she has seen a few yesterday that are obviusly private sitting on the road. So i may go and have a look at those.
