credit card confussion

I would like to get a credit card that is 0% interest free on purches but when i was reading up on them many say 'Maximum of 56 days for purchases where the balance is paid in full every month'. What does this mean? Or does it only apply when the months for the 0% interest are up? Does it mean that after the so many months are up that are interest free i would have a maxium of 56 days to pay for the purches otherwise i would have to start paying interest? Thanks
