Poss extra gratia payment!

Had a brief word with my boss today, who's said that he'd like to put me forward for a possible extra gratia payment, due to the good work I've done over the past year.
He is aware of my situation - and immediately asked 'what would happen to the money if you did get the payment'
I told him as it would probably be a few hundred pounds (untaxed) that the OR would need to be notified of the change in that particular monthly salary anyway - but wasnt 100% sure just how much they'd take - would it be 50-70% of it or is this type of situation different to when they work out your surplus income with it being a one-off payment?
My boss has said if theres a different way so that I benefit that they'd try and work things out for me - trying me for an extra incriment is a possibility but a bit more harder to get than the one-off payment (mainly as that would mean my salary would increase but over 12 months, which obv. the OR would take a bit of, but probably not as much as a one off payment)
Has anyone had experience of informing their ORs about extra-gratia payments - and whether they've taken any of it, or if so, how much?

Your OR may take it all. Sorry. Then again, he may not want a penny. Unfortunately you are not going to know until you actually tell him.
Of course, you could ask your boss that if you were lucky enough to get it, then could it be in vouchers instead???? Mum got £1k bonus recently, £600 in vouchers and the rest in her wages, but the additional amount was taxed. They paid the majority in vouchers instead so as to avoid her paying tax on the whole amount.
Make sure you tell your boss which vouchers you would prefer!0
