Hello,
Wondering if anyone knew how long fruit scones keep for after cooking? I've tried a search on the forum but cannot see anything at a glance relating to this. Thanks in advance;-)

A few hours or overnight if I'm lucky. :rotfl:
To be honest scones are better eaten on the day they are made or the day after as they have a tendency to dry out.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Thanks for that - made them yesterday for visiting guests (that's why they haven't been eaten). I was hoping they'd be OK for the next few days.....
Should I freeze then defrost or just taste them and see if they are edible?0 -
If you made them yesterday they will certianly be okay today.
You can certianly freeze them but i would do that and just feed them to my family.
If your guests arent coming for a few days i would make a fresh batch
on the day. mmmmmmmmmmmmmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I've never [STRIKE]had the chance[/STRIKE] tried to freezing them.
If the container is air tight you should be all right but as scones are so quick and simple to make I recommend trying them and possibly having to make some more.
If I fancy scones I can go from the first thought implantation to eating a warm scone with butter in 20 minutes.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Or you could make a batch then freeze them unbaked (open freeze on a tray then bag when frozen) You can then cook them from frozen. And serve fresh and warm to loud applause from your guests0

They do freeze OK;) But as Rikki says scones are one of those things you can whip up really quickly, just the thing for visitors.0

Thanks to all - just tried one and it tasted good so will risk another day! Can't make them fresh as I won't be here.....! Also time constraints meant that they had to be done yesterday or never.0

How about rubbing the fat into the flour, and adding the dry ingredients together in advance. Put it all into a lidded container and refrigerate. Then on the morning just add the milk (and egg - if used), gently knead and roll out. Would save a little bit of time on the day and stop you from becoming too flour covered.0

If you do have older ones you want to use, heat them up again - it softens up any hardness....0

They never last long enough here either !
TBH they are so quick and easy that you might as well knock them up as your guests arrive - they will be mighty impressed
I fling all the ingred's into a food processor, blitz then add liquid and squash out with my hands and cut out - never ever use a rolling pin - takes too long !0
