Hi everyone!
I currently work for the NHS and sometimes get quite a bit of expenses as I run about a lot in the community and use my own car.
The question is, My expenses get put on my wage from payroll but shows up seperately on my wage slip. This year alone I think it accumalates to approx £1500 a year and this amount is taken as my 'earnings' Can I claim this back?
Seems unfair that I pay for petrol, for this then to get taken into consideration as my wages when its not!
Thanks for taking the time to read and reply!

Oh and another quickie,
I currently work 25 hours and have been offered 30. Someone says that I will be better off and get slightly more money from WTC if I work 30 hours. Is this true? I dont want to be worse off or work for pennies.

Your expenses will be a seperate line on your payslip as you should not be taxed for these expenses as you claim the mileage. You will of course be taxed for your earnings.
If you recieve an essential car user allowance this will be taxed.
Check your contract of employment."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".
!!!!!! is all that about?0 -
Tax Credit renewal pack says
deduct any expenses which you have paid out from your earnings wholly, exclusively and necessarily in the course of your work (as well as travelling expenses that you have paid in the performance of your normal duties). If your employer did not pay these expenses back to you, deduct the amount you paid from your gross pay. If your employer paid back any of these expenses to you, do not deduct the amount that you were paid back from your earnings
(and they highlight the do not, it's not something I've done).
but I would phone and check, 'cos I'd read this as you can ignore what they've given you as expenses...... but can't also deduct it from your salary (which in effect means you're deducting it twice)
