Moving House....what to do?

Hello everyone

I will be moving flats in 4 weeks and need to know if there is anything I need to consider before moving by means of informing the relevant authorities.

I will be moving to a new council where I claim housing benefit. I also claim DLA and incapacity benefit.

I realise that I need to tell all of these people but was just wondering if there are any complications or advice that can be given on how to do this as smoothly as possible.

I realise I will need to make a new claim for housing and council tax benefit but I am woried if this address change will affect my Incapacity or DLA?

Also, was wondering if there is any help open to me for managing the cost of moving. I am being forced to move due to anti-social neighbours that have been making my life hell for the last 6 month. I am happy about my new home but have only ever moved once before and am slightly daunted by it all.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just make sure you end the claims with the old LA in respect to HB/CTB. Incapacity and DLA is pretty much straight forward and just a change of address, or at least that was the case with my gran.

I understand why you think it's daunting, there's a lot to remember. You've got to notify everyone (benefits/utility providers/banks/TV licencing etc) of the change, remember to take meter readings for gas and electric etc etc. There's some good checklists on the internet which are worth having and going through so you don't miss anything.

Thanks for your reply, Conor. I have looked at some of those checklists you spoke about and they are helpful.

Does anyone know about the help with removal costs. I cant find anythin on the internet and it's my one big concern as the removal company wants £200 but I dont have that much at the moment. My friend says he thinks that you can get help from the benefits office but I cant find anything.
