Grandma in a care home

Good luck Rocker. I had not even considered the threat of asault upon a patient - only worried about the effects of bizarre behaviours worrying new residents. It must be a very traumatic time for you.
I have a situation with my mother and have been finding out about Nursing Homes and the costs involved. I can certainly recommend all the information and posts provided by Monkeyspanner on the subject.
I wonder if anyone can explain a further point relating to finance though? My mother [I manage them] receives Direct Payments from the council for some element of care. She has to make a contribution towards these payments herself too. I understand that if Mum came to live with me, these payments could continue and could even increase or reduce according to the dictates of her new careplan.
If she came to live with me, her house would then be empty. We have tried to sell - but the market is flat.
QUESTION Could the council make a charge on the house to fund direct payments in the same way as they are abel to do to fund nursing home payments?0 -
Are you able to rent the house out - although the sales market is flat the rental market is booming at present as many people can't get onto the property ladder.
We're currently sorting out Grandad's house with a view to rent when we've finished dealing with his belonging. The house itself will need a little work to get it into rentable condition though.
