Sainsburys-"nothing to offer!"

in Credit cards
I just had to come on to the forum to tell you how bad the service will be if you have a Sainsburys credit card. My Sainsbury card currently has a £0 balance and they have just increased my credit limit to £3900. So naturally, as I am getting ready to transfer balances, and on the advice of another helpful money saver, I rang Sainsburys to ask whether they could offer me a balance transfer deal.
I spoke to a woman on the phone who made me wait for at least 5 minutes while trying to find out what they could offer me, only to then, be put onto another woman who told me that she needed to look at my account to see whether they could offer me anything. While looking at my account the woman commented that the account had been managed perfectly, and so, I was optimistic that I would be offered something. But then i was told that there was "nothing they could offer at this time", I was also told that something may be available in January but I would have to wait and see!! Therefore the lady said, "if you would like to balance tranfer today that will be 15.9%!!!! I politely declined her offer. I was shocked to say the least, I was ready to balance transfer £2200 to them, I was willing to accept a 5.9% interest rate or there about, and they turned me down.
I was so cross I told the woman that the card was no good to me without any offers and requested the account be closed. She asked whether the reason for this request was simply the lack of balance transfer offers, I didnt hesitate in saying yes. Now, I might be completely stupid but surely in a competitive credit card market, I would think sainsburys would try to keep their customers. Maybe I'm just not worthy!!!

no i think you will find that sainsburys financial side of thier operation is losing money like a leaking ship so they are not offering the deals they did early last year to get in the market. I also have a sainsburys card which they refused to increase the limit untill 6 months and then the limit was only modestly increased. Am just about to shop around for another card as I suspect that they will not offer me any incentive to stay with them. You are not alone0

They have a 5.9% life of balance offer to existing customers ends 31st Dec, with no BT fee. Via mailshot. So why not you?

I had a Sainsbury's credit card and the 1 year 0% deal ended on 19th November - I had already BT'd the balance to another 0% card and called Sainsbury's to close my account (after my cashback had been credited). I got put through to retentions and was asked questions about why I was closing etc with the comment "if you have any balances you would like to transfer your interest free period has been extended". I personally found their service to be good and everyone I have spoken to v helpful.
Maybe it depends on who you get put through to?

My Sainsbury card also had a £0 balance for some while, and Sainsburys offered me twice 5.94% for life of balance via mailshots. First offer ends 31st Dec, no BT fee, and second - 31st Jan 2006, fee 2%.
But I had similar to your experiences with RBS, had zero balance for two months, phoned them 3 or 4 times, their answer every time was "no offers for you, sorry". So, I decided to cancel the card, phoned them last week and then only they offered me 6.9% for life of balance, 7.9% (previously had 16.9%) on purchases and increased credit limit by £1.000. I agree with Petal it all depends which customer service assistant you get put through to.0 -
Can someone tell me what mailshot is? And now that I've cancelled the card, i'm guessing that's me knackered for any offers through this route? Any advice?0

Mailshot is an offer or any other marketing stuff received by post.0
