Bricked up fireplace - vent question?
Doh
Hi i'm about to brick up my fire place opening, i release u need a vent to prevent damp in the chimney. Do i have to put the vent in the front? i would prefer to have it in the side not directly visable, obviously this is alot more work but i'm not to bothered about that. Also does the vent need to be a particular size?

I dont think it matters where the vent goes, provided its there. Cant help with the size required though.0

As long as there is a flow of air going up the flue it matters not where you put it.
Any size is better than nothing You could put a small air brick or just drill some holes in the brickwork or whatever you are using to seal the opening up.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
If you position the vent at floor level and make the hole big enough for a hoover pipe to fit in you can clean it out every six months or so its suprising how much debri ends up in seald chimneys you could use a round soffit vent to cover the hole.0
