Standing Order to pay Halifax Mortgage

I just spoke to an arrogant idiot in the Halifax Mortgage Centre about my mortgage payment.
To explain the background I've got a mortgage with them and up until recently had a Bank account with them as well, I've recently moved my standing order to apy my mortgage to another bank that doesn't have faster payments so I'm concerned that the payment won't reach them in time as its now with a different organisation.
Not wanting a late payment charge I called and he just kept repeating its nothing to do with us you need to talk to your bank about the Standing order, once I managed to get him to listen to my query he said it doesn't make any difference with SO, its only if you pay by DD that its due on a certain day and if I'm paying by SO I can pay it any day between the 1st and the 28th without prior arrangement, surely this cannot be correct? Can anyone help?

I don't make my mortgage payments on the same day each month as I make more than one payment up to the monthly total.
As long as the full amount clears on the mortgage account by my payment due date there has never been a problem or a late payment charge.
Could move the S/O date with the new bank forward by a few days. Can you send a payment when you choose? I pay mine like a bill payment.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Thats what I don't understand, as far as I remember the due date is the 1st which means it wouldn't reach them on that date but he says it doesn't matter....."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

As long as the full amount is there by the date there should be no problem. Due you have last years statement it will tell you your monthly payment date. Once you know this date you can make your payment accordingly.
I have my mortgage as one of my bill payments which means I can pay what ever amount when ever I like, obviously making sure I have a full payment by the due date.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

1) As long as you pay the Halifax mortgage payment within the calendar month, your account will be classed as up to date and there won't be any late payment fees.
2) Why not pay by direct debit anyway?
3) Halifax cannot change a standing order from a competitor's bank account.
He may have been arrogant, but sounds like he was also right.0 -
I'm not disputing that he might have been right i just felt he would tell me anything to get me off the phone!
I pay by SO so that I can pay extra if I'm able to, I'm not asking them to change the SO what I wanted to know was whether I needed to change the payment due date to maybe the 4th or something to ensure it reached them on time, I'm not able to make the SO payment earlier because it comes out on the day I get paid.

Have you considered setting up a direct debit for the amount you are supposed to pay each month and then use the SO for any overpayments you may wish to make. This will mean that the mortgage is paid on time each month especially as the over payments can be made anytime during the month.0

You need to know the exact date the mortgage payment is due.
It might be worth another call to the Halifax. Ask just for that information and if necessary ask them to change the S/O date to one more suitable for you and them.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Only with Direct Debit is there an actual set date as this is something Halifax has to put into place with the other bank.0 -
Not on Halifax mortgages. Went paying by any other method than Direct Debit, the consumer can make the payment anytime in the calendar month - sooner the better to benefit from daily interest. Standing orders are amended from the source bank account..Rikki wrote:I don't make my mortgage payments on the same day each month as I make more than one payment up to the monthly total.
