  • My partner and many more people in the Company that he works for had to take a £5 a day - if not more - pay cut to stop others being laid off. So I hope many of you would say yes otherwise it could be my partner out of work next! Surely its better to earn something than nothing at all!

I'd take a 10% pay cut. So long as they offered 1 extra day a week off work.

Would you agree to the pay cut?

    A. Yes 52% (3956 votes)
    B. No 48% (3718 votes)

for completeness, the margins of error on these results are:

    yes: 51.5% +/- 1.12%
    no: 48.5% +/- 1.12%

very tight margin because of the very large number of respondents

I could not afford to take a 10% pay cut, I may consider a smaller cut but it would depend on where I worked. I don't have a lavish lifestyle that I could cut back on, I could probably still afford bills and mortgage but why am I going to work if I can't afford the odd drink or a holiday once a year. I don't live for work I work to live and if I can't afford to do anything at all away from work then I don't see the point in doing that job. Selfish...yes but also honest, you only live once and I refuse to spend that life miserable and doing nothing but working if I can avoid it. If I had 4 holidays a year and 2 cars etc then I'd take a hit because it wouldn't be a huge loss to have one holiday and one car but that's not how I live so no...I wouldn't. I also wouldn't trust management to not take bonuses or find another way of keeping their salary the same.
