NPower electric bills don't add up
Options
Maybe it is just me, but I was looking back at my NPower statements last night and when I added up the "Charges' or total column the value on my calculator was different to that on the statement.
An example :-
Charges £103.51 + £39.53 + £96.54 + £16.55 + £7.44 + £1.12 + £9.65 = £274.34
and yet my 'total" charge is £285.54 - a difference of £11.20 and VAt is added to this higher value.
I then checked back on a previous bill :-
Charges £13.69 + £3.67 + £10.38 + £69.82 + £18.30 + £10.33 + £57.72 = £183.91 yet my total charges on the statement shows £185.75 - a difference of £1.84, again, VAT is added to the higher value.
Before I complain, am I missing something here or are Npower bills somehow rounding up the kwh x pence per units to arrive at the totals or is it something else or are they just thieving as usual?.
Thanks in advance.

Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.

Could you scan your bill (covering address etc) and upload the image?0
-
Or give some more detail?0

I'm working on uploading an image - give a few minutes as I'm not versed in this uploading lark !Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Sorry for any confusion, basically my point is that the bill comes with the various meter readings and price per units and then a total column showing the total ie, 700 kwh x 10p = £70.00 for day and 300 kwh x 5p = £15.00 for night.
You'd think adding up the totals (ie, £70.00 + £15.00 would equal £85.00 at the bottom of that column...well mine does not come out like that at all, it comes out higher.
Hopefully the link in my previous post may help you visualise what I'm (badly) describing.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Unfortunately your image shack link is just too small to be read and enlarging doesn't help.0

They haven't shown the charge for the 48 night units from 18/12/07 to 4/01/08.
That will account for the £1.84 undercharge.0 -
Thanks Cardew. Much appreciated.
I looked at the 48kwh myself but to get to the £1.84 overcharge would suggest the pence per kwh rate is about 3.83 pence.
If we go with the 4.220p rate shown on the bill x 48 kwh = £2.03 so now NPower have under charged me on that basis.
I know its only £1.83! but this is a heatwise/E10 tarrif (well not now, I've had the E10 meter replaced with a straight E7 meter) and maybe just need to resign myself to letting this one go as not worth the effort.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. What I think you have missed is that 04/01/08 was the date of the price increase. So the 48 units were at the pre-increase price(3.83p) not the post increase price of 4.22p
You will notice that your daily charge was 21.6p before 04/01/08 and 24.4p afterwards.
So I don't think what you have been charged is incorrect, it is just a line on the bill missing.0 -
Much appreciated once again Cardew.
My job is complex international tax planning for large multi-nationals but for the life of me I can never understand how pensions work and how to work out utility bills!:DAnger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind.
