Yet another chargeback!

Hi all,
I posted a few weeks ago about a buyer who had got her bank to reverse her paypal payments as they had taken them out at the wrong time of the month! I seem to have lost that case as I cannot provide proof of delivery! Even though proof of delivery is not in doubt!
Buyer is now Naru'd
Well on Sunday I get another chargeback! This buyer is alleging unauthorised use of his Paypal.Again it was a relatively low cost item so was sent 1st class so I cannot prove delivery.
The transaction was on 16th September!
Paypal took back the value of the transaction and left me with a negative balance. This also made it a night mare to pay for an item I won as it wanted me to retore the balance before I paid but wouldn't let me!
Paypal are asking me to provide proof that the item was posted through an approved postal service ,I assume that means recorded delivery?
I have always agreed with Soolin re the cost of RD verus risk but I think I will have to send most things RD from now on.Otherwise I would be better off chucking my goods away rather than pay RM for the privilege of delivering my items to a scammer who then gets their money back too!!!
I am totally disallussioned with ebay/paypal:mad:

I think I've just had 4 people do that to me. They claimed anyway and the PO didn't offer proof of postage. I now owe paypal £60.£8k to pay off before Jan 2011! Was 28k to pay off by Jan 2010 though so I'm happy

I think you need proof of delivery so have to send Recorded Delivery. My items are small, light ans low value so I did not but I will be in future.I think Paypal should look at how they can tighten up on chargebacks but of course they won't as they don't lose out WE DO!
My first buyer admited she reversed the payment as the Paypal payment had left her short of funds!!!!!!!!! What did she thik it would do to me?
Just wish I lived closer and could send the boys round (to ask politely for my money of course!)
I had terrible problems paying whe my account was minus £0.24 as when I tried to put in 24p it said I couldn't transfer more than the negative balance,so I tried 1p and it wouldn't let me do that either!!!!
The solution was to go into paypal and opt to pay for ebay items directly through paypal without ebay checkout and that worked!
I am off to PO to send 3 parcels......... RD of course!:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0 -
Paypal should accept a certificate of posting as proof as far as I am concerned but they don't.. As a buyer RD is a right pain in the backside as the postie comes when I am not there. Also as a seller its a pain in the backside having to queue at the PO for what is sometimes > 30 mins.
Its about time things changes so certificate of postage is enough for a seller and also since online printing is traceable to some extent (RM know if the label has been used as soon as its processed) that this should be enough.
PayPals protection is a waste of time too. Paypal should take the hit themselves when things go wrong fromn the huge profits they make for doing , well, nothing!0 -
If you read Marty J's post on the useful tips sticky thread it appears to say that you only need proof of postage to win a chargeback for unauthorised use of a card. I think though that the original payment still had to show it was eligible for seller protection. I recently won a claim for fraudulent use of a card just by scanning and uploading my COP. However, I would also strongly urge immediate contact with the buyer in case it is an error, if it isn't an error then you can worry them a bit by saying you will be taking legal advice.

Thanks Soolin,thats interesting!
Whe I read the T&Cs I read it as I required proof of posting using an approved service which I assumed to be RD .
If you can remember I phoned Paypal re the first chargeback and was told that if I didn't have proof of delivery I would lose.
I will send the COP and see what happens.:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0 -

Your choice, your risk. If you want to save time, then just send everything standard 1st class, but build a loss factor into your pricing.
Proof of postage is exactly that - it shows you sent the item, but it does not show the buyer received it. You are still responsible for that item until the buyer receives it - dispite what hundreds of eBay numpties put on their listings!! Look at it from the buyers point of view - you have sent £20-£30 to a complete stranger and nothing arrives. What would you do??Its about time things changes so certificate of postage is enough for a seller and also since online printing is traceable to some extent (RM know if the label has been used as soon as its processed) that this should be enough.
As above - it shows that you did send it, but how does this prove the buyer received it? There is no barcode or suchlike on the parcel to track it's whereabouts in the system - unless you pay for Special Delivery, and i doubt that a GPS tracking device would be cost effective in every item sent!
However, certain sellers are eligible for a higher degree of protection with a simple proof of postage - Enhanced Seller protection, but this tends to be for the higher voilume users - or those that pay the most in Paypal fees.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Ok,when I look at the trasaction details on Paypal it says first of all "partially eligible" then further down its says "ineligible"
Will this be because the buyers address was unconfirmed? (16th Sept):j I love bargains:jI love MSE0 -

The new seller protection rules came in to effect on the 1st or 7th october (paypal don't seem to be able to make their mind up of the actual date).
Personally I would keep on at buyer but I would also keep on at paypal as well, if necssary make a formal complaint against themI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
