Are any of the Utilities companies unscrupulous?

I've heard that eon and npower harass customers when it comes to paying regardless of whether the customer has a genuine dispute about bills.
Do you know of harassment and underhanded methods used by these utilities companies?
Are any less of a headache to deal with than others?

The utility warehouse club "stores" any debit or credit card numbers you ever give them at any time as a member of their "club".
If at any time you dispute a bill, and stop the direct debit pending the dispute being settled they dig out the stored card details and just charge the disputed amount against the card!0 -
The Big 6 energy suppliers are in the business of supplying a product that they know most people have no choice but to buy from them. Therefore competetion between them is very keen and prices are cut to the bone.
Furthermore their pricing structures and incentives are clearly set out so it is easy for the customer, with barely a second glance, to see which company is offering the most value for money.
They also have strong social ethics which ensures that the vulnerable or financially disadvantaged of their customers are not worried about using their products and will be as warm as toast this winter.
In the rare event of someone receiving a huge bill which (has been allegedly mis-calculated ) they cannot pay then they will immediately take measures to resolve the matter. In addition to their well trained and helpful front line customer service personnel they have large dedicated 'back-room' teams whose sole purpose is to resolve these problems quickly, efficiently and amicably.
There will be no more harassment then the odd gentle reminder of an outstanding sum.
I find your question surprising. The stories you have heard have, I suspect, been in the media. At times such as we are in now, where there is a dearth of news, journalists will pay people large sums of money to gild the lily over minor misdemeanours allegedly committed by our beloved utility industry.
You can be rest assured that whoever your supplier is you will be treated with honesty, courtesy and respect. If you are not then they will feel the full wrath of the mighty Ofgem. In the past some companies have occasionally behaved as you state and Ofgem have, in extreme cases, severely ticked them off.
I hope this answers your question.:rolleyes:0 -

Post of the week for me:D I love it. Maybe the OP would have made it easier for respondents if the letters 'u' and 'n' had been left off the last word in the title...;)
