My Ancient Epson stylus 200 has finally ran out of its original epson ink supply. i replaced it with a suitable cartridge from inkmasters. the printer will not recognise that the new cartridge has ink in it. The cartridge is correctly installed and is correct for this printer.
Does anyone know how to tell the printer that there is some ink?
I've tried shouting!
Thankyou, any help very much appreciated,

are you running windows xp
if so uninstall the printer then reboot system
let windows find the driver for you.....hope this works0 -
I have, in the past, had to uninstall the printer, reinstall the drivers and then connect the printer. XP then finds the printer and hopefully this does it. My current epson will only recognise branded inks. unless there in a branded black ink in it will not allow compatible colours to be used.

never used an epson myself
but believe they have chips in the cartridge might be that causing the problem?
tried searching the internet for help?0 -
I have an Epson and don't have any problems with unbranded. But you could have switched off your options to print on unbranded without realising.
When you change a cartridge for the first couple of times you get a warning along the lines of 'we dont recognise the cartridge, please use genuine ink' etc etc but the default setting is to hit the YES key which tells your PC not to accept the current cartridge.
I think there is something in the settings box to reset this, but I cannot find it at the moment. The best thing would be to uninstall then reinstall the printer. Watch out for any boxes that come up and read them twice. The warning I am on about needs careful reading as the YES actually means you dont want the current cartridge, a clever trick by Epson.
Hope that makes sense. I will keep looking at my settings to see if I can find the button to reset.0 -

Thankyou all for your help. I Still can't print anything though.
I tried uninstalling the printer - windows doesn't recognise it, so I re installed it with the original setup disk, the ink level is still right down.
I can't find a setting for generic ink - i think this printer is the first one they used a chipped cartridge on.
The link to the setup program looks great but downloading it gives the error "setup files corrupted"
I have emailed the ink supplier to see if they have any thoughts on this. Thankyou all for your help so far. any other ideas are appreciated.

Have you tried Epson for the latest drivers? They may have fixed the bug.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I used to have an Epson stylus 200 it does not use chipped cartridges, just standard when it packed up I bought another Epson which did. Go to https://www.jrinkjet.co.uk for the solution. That Printer lasted a year before it started to suffer from the Epson Clog (my term)then Bought the cheapest Canon i250 £34 with cartridges. Best printer I have ever owned. and cartridges from Ebuyer are very cheap."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0
