    Hi,
Im sorry that this is happening to you, what a pain.

I have found this with regard to HB but I think each council has its own rules..

    hi there,

my hubby is in the same position as you and one thing agains him is his 90 days notice the gov still classed you as "employed" until this time is over so he gets no money and no free courses :(

I understand the concepts of cooking and cleaning
........ I Just dont understand how they apply to me!

The first, which I am sure of, is bad news I'm afraid. Things like free dental treatment and free prescriptions don't come to you unless you are on income support (IS), not JSA.

The second, which I am not sure of but which would be worth you finding out, is that if you were to let out your second bedroom I am almost sure you would be allowed to keep some of it. Back in the days when I did this I was allowed to keep the first £30 (plus a bit more for bills I think???) and that was for IS. I suspect that since JSA is not means tested you would be able to keep all the rent, so that you could rent for up to £84 a week without it affecting anything (approx £4200 is the annual tax free limit under the rent a room scheme).
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • Thanks again for all of the good advice and postings here. The good news is that I've been offered some work for the New Year for a few months, which will hopefully see me through til I get something permanent. Still, it's made me realise that 'help' from the government, which we pay for via NI and taxes, isn't much help at all!

Good luck to anyone else in a similar situation - cassy, sorry about your hubby, hope he also gets something sorted sooner rather than later.
