best internet connection for moving around..

we are moving around quite a lot between the uk and france. i often need to get connected but it is such hassle to rely on internet cafes etc. i would rather have software on my computer that enables me to do this. what would people recommend? I am still paying for ntl broadband so that i can access my mail in the meantime but having a good connection that i can move around with - hotels etc - would be really important. thanks in advance. :xmastree:
