Selling car/number plate help..
Odd one this!
I have a Nissan Sunny, an old one, 1989 I think that I want to sell. It has no tax or mot as it hasn't been driven for about a year... will need battery charging, brakes unlocking etc.. I know that I won't get much at all for the car..
BUT..
I have a cherished plate on it. The plate is similar to a name (won't give the exact one.. but for eg) E 6 MMA.
I had a look on ebay, and similar plates are going for about £3k!
Does anyone have any advice? Should I try and get the number plate off the car and sell the separately, or "get the number plate, get the car free!"
I honestly have no idea how to go about it, so ANY advice would be very gratefully received.

i have a private number plate and think you would be only able to sell it if car is taxed and mot'd and they give you a replacement plate.0

Tells you all about the requirments, 1st thing to do is check that you would be able to transfer if you had an MOT. Then if it is worth fixing the car to get the MOT so you can take the reg off the car.
Is it really worth 3K? you have to wait for someone who wants you number to come along or sell it to a dealer for alot less.0 -
Thank you.
I have spoken to the DVLA this morning who have told me every single thing I need to do.
They said that because the plate is a rare one (thought they were all rare - it's not like there are duplicates!!) it should be worth more than that!
Yes! It means i can properly pay my debts off... woohoo

I don't want to burst your bubble, but the real value of your number plate may well be a lot less than you think it is, it is only worth what somebody will give you for it.
A dealer will not give you anything like the figure that you have quotes.
Plus you have the transfer costs and getting the car roadworthy before you can even start to get excited.0 -
I wasn't going to go through a dealer.. I thought I'd try and market it myself.
Also, quite luckily, my cousin is a mechanic and will get it running again for nothing - I should only have to pay MOT fees, tax and getting it insured.. which I think I can do for a month, then cancel when the car is sold.
It is (was) a good runner of a car - it's only not been used because I have another car, so this poor one has been sat on the drive. I should have taken it for a weekly spin, but once the tax ran out (remembered to declare SORN - phew) I just never got around to getting it sorted.
Once all is in order, I'll try my luck on ebay - I've seen some frankly indistinguishable "name" plates that went for £3k plus.. so I'll give it a go.
No hopes got up yet, I'm shutting up the voice in the back of my head that is doing cartwheels as we speak. It's not going to cost me much to give it a go... and anything it makes is more than I was getting when it was just sitting on the drive taking up space!0
