Servis Insolvency - Washing Machine warranty

Hey.
Can anyone help? My in-laws bought a Servis washing machine in July/August from Argos. It broke down in September and under the manufacturer's warranty, Servis sent out an engineer, who went away and apparently ordered the part. 5 weeks later and numerous phone calls about parts coming from europe (or the moon, more like!!) there was still no joy. Rang up again today and a message about Servis going into insolvency was played down the phone. So, what happens now? Does this mean the manufacturer's warranty isn't worth the paper its written on? Can anything be done? Please help!

But isn't it outside the 28 day period? Do they have an obligation after that time? Can't seem to find any info on the net about this.
Thanks for your help though.
Very much appreciated.:o0 -

Really? I hope so, as my in-laws don't have much money, especailly for a new washing machine or even to get it repaired. Where will I find out more about that law, just in case the retailer tries to fob them off?
Thanks again for the help.:rolleyes:0 -
tell them to use john lewis in future.

I believe that if you have already had an engineer out to the machine then it will be perceived by the retailer that the manufacturer has accepted responsibility for the maintenance. HOWEVER if an engineer has been out several times for the SAME problem then you should be entitled to a new ( AND WORKING) machine. I have been got as well, I have had my servis washer/dryer for around 8 months and have had someone out to it 5 times already, now the dryer heating element is broken and I got the same message as you. You could try Argos, their customer services are usually quite good, they might help you just to keep your custom. Just a tip though, the written word is always a good idea, email or write a letter, and keep a copy for yourself. Good luck.

PS Anyone thinking of buying a Servis appliance, DON'T BOTHER, mine has been nothing but trouble, expense, trips to the laundrette and days off work.0 -
The retailer can perceive all they like, it won't get them out of their contractual obligations. They are obliged to sell you goods which are of reasonable quality and make good where the goods aren't. This is separate to any warranty a manufacturer might make. Consumer Direct (www.consumerdirect.gov.uk) is the government's advice line - give them a ring and they will expalin exactly where you stand and help you draft letters if Argos don't accept their responsibilities. I agree with jujoo69 that you should get in touch with Argos' customer services in the first instance and give them the chance to do the right thing.

For bonus points, if your in-laws used a credit card to pay for the washing machine then Section 75 protection kicks in.0
