Freesat BBC HD was launched this year 8th of May or June 2008 you have to pay a one off fee in buying the box around £50- £150 at argos and £80 for installation but after that its free so are the hd channels which they have ITV hd exclusively to them...and should have up to 200 channels on it by christmas 2008...if anyone is interested...I may go with them in 12 months time as I have all the equipment now...but I think I may need a different box to the one I have from sky hd...
Plans for 2009
1/ Get fit. 2/ Get my figure back. 3/ Get the MAN BACK! :kisses2::happylove

We bought a second hand sky+ box and fitted fitted another LNB ariel onto the sky dish then rang sky and told them that we had done this and they switched our box on for nothing, you have to have 2 sky ariels in the dish and sky+ box for recording and that or the plus box is no good, hope this helps :-)mum of 4 hungry kids, 3 cats and the OH

I rang sky a few months back quoted threads that I had seen on forums told them that I too wanted a free + box or I would cancel and I got one and free install. You may have to ring a couple of times and see what each person offers they did offer different deals different adviser but I was insistent that I shouldn't pay if others didn't...I have broad band and phone too but I am paying for the broad band because they haven't sorted the exchange out yet I called last month said that in light of the credit cruch I would be cancelling my films to counter balance paying for my broadband they reduced by package to £25 per month for 4mths added the phone for nothing for 6 months ( including line rental ) brilliant just before xmas £25 all in a still got the movies .and if things don't get sorted so I get free broad band like other parts of the country I can still cancel the movies at a later date anyway...just ring and be nice:rotfl:£2008 in 2008 club member no 390

After many calls over the last 2wks holding on/passed around/getting cut off, I remembered to check out Martin's site:money: so glad.:rotfl:
I'm a sucker for the deal that go's the extra smile, the advertised offer is £105 (75+30install) but saw some of you had succeeded on a better deal.:D
I told them my probs getting thru' & I was fed up, to the point of leaving (bin wiv'em for years so no hold on me) & I had again been cut off just as I had been offered a deal for £49:rolleyes: was it still 'on screen'?:p They confirmed it wasn't but would honor it albeit there would be a £10 install charge, total £59.:j Still gotta pay £10/m for HD package which at moment is pretty ltd:mad: But hey I can live with that, thanks! & its got 5.1 surround sound!0 -
i got sky+ by threatening to leave sky and go and get a vrgin v+ box - same as sky but obviously you dont get skyone - they will put you through to cancellations and then they will try and talk you out of leaving them. I got mine installed for free and the box didnt cost me anything but thats because where we moved too already had a box and satelitte so all sky did was send out a sky card.0

I have been a Sky customer now for 11 years, just on their basic £18 package with extra £1 for the Diva Channel (Love Rachael Ray). Anyway, my Grundig Skydigital Box - which was installed back in 2001 - finally gave up the ghost lastnight and died. We changed to fuse, etc, but to no avail.
Anyhow, have been on the phone this morning to 08442 411 411 to discuss a replacement and here's what happened:-
Spoke to Jennfer on technical help and she advised I could either sign up for the Sky Repair Plan @ £8.99 per month for a 12 month contract, (£107.88 in total for the year), or have a repair engineer come out for a one-off fee of £65.00. In either option the box would be replaced like-for-like. I didnt like these prices so I asked to talk to sales to see what they could offer on an upgrade.
So then I was transferred throught to Megan on sales to discuss the Sky+. The current price is £150.00 for the Sky+box AND £60.00 connection charge - - £210.00 . Or, if I subscribed to Sky+ @ extra £10.00 per month on top of my current packages, I could get the box free, but still with £60.00 connection. So, £180.00, instead. Not surprisingly, I did not like these prices either. I put her on hold whilst I 'discussed' with Lordgrim, and came back to her to advise I think it best for me to cancel my subscription instead as this was all too too expensive.
So, I asked to be transferred to Cancellations team and she put me back into a call steering queue where I chose the canellations team option. After a while I was through to Steven (poor chap has a very very heavy cold), and I explained my previous two conversations above. I stressed that even £65.00 was too much to pay and so I wanted to cancel my subscription all together, he placed me on hold for a short time (less than a minute) and came back to offer me a new Sky+ box for .......... wait for it .................... £49.00!!!! :j :j
No additional subscriptions required :T
No connection charge. :T
There is a 12 month term (that will soon pass), but I do have the right to cancel wilthin the 1st month (cooling off period).
Needless to say, I am very very very pleased with this offer and after 'discussing' with Lordgrim (Steven on hold), went back to him to accept it.
He started to put the order through for me, reading out the distance selling regulation, terms and conditions...... and then the call dropped out!!!
I THOUGHT ID LOST THE DEAL. I waited for him to call me (but he didnt) so then I redialled and managed to get through to Jamie on the cancellations team on 08442 414141 (option 5, 3 and 1). I explained all of the above and Jamie was perfectly happy to honor the deal Steven had given me, and he placed the order - - with just one little hiccup....
The earliest Sky+ appointment available is 21st November. 3 weeks with no Sky!!
After a bit of headscratching, he found a solution. He has been able to book a repair engineer to replace my current box like for like next Friday 7th - FREE OF CHARGE. We have booked the Sky+ for 21st November AND I get a £10 credit as I cannot view Sky until the new box is installed!!
WHAT A RESULT :j :T :j :T
Yes, it took a while on the phone to get this sorted out. However, I think it was well worth it.
Wanted to share my expeirence on here in case anyone else wants to give it a try.

Im sick and fed up with skys rules! ..I cancelled sky about 3 yrs ago when we moved house and were "cutting back" .. i rang them about 3 weeks ago and asked about a deal i had seen in Comet that weekend and was told
"oh thats only for new customers!" .. well i am a new customer arnt i ? ..
i mean they havnt been providing me with anything for 3 yrs so how could i be existing! .. anyway some chap told me hey i could have the sky+HD thingy fitted for £139 final offer and couldnt offer me anything better than that! ....
So my OH took the phone and they discussed the fact that he couldnt understand how i was still an exsisting customer! .. then asked chappy how it would work if he (OH) were to sign upto sky ..
He has NEVER had any service from them atall ... the reply was Oh no cant do that because you live with an existing customer! ..
and if he did and they found out they could charge £500 for "real" cost of box .......
I just dont understand their rules! ...
My OH asked how long it would take for me not to be classed as existing anymore and he was told never! i will always be a customer! ....... But im not recieving anything from them !!!!!!!!!!! ..
anyone know if i could get a better deal or any way round this? or even better a simple clear explanation of how their rules work !?!?!?!Hoping to be a thinner me in 2010!0 -
piratess, it might be worth writing to them and getting it in writing. You never know, they may (one day) have a good offer for existing customers and you then get told you are NOT one!0

Northern Monkey,
Do you live on your own?
Who's name is your current Sky contract in?
There are many offers to existing Sky customers around at the moment offering them money or vouchers if they introduce a NEW customer to Sky+. The new customer gets a free Sky+ box (£30 installation fee)
If the current Sky contract is in your name, your partner would be a new customer.
Find some-one who has some of the vouchers (another forum discussion on this site???) and get your partner to register as a new customer. You then cancel your own subcription.
You get Sky+ for only £30.0 -

Call back up and get a different agent, the official ruling on it is that after 12 months you are classed as a new customer0
